My Mother's Kiss
by Shavra Woodard

My mother's kiss is irreplacable
been kissed by many on the face but those
never felt like my mothers
even as the ink scribbles on the pad
that womans hug reminds me of the times so glad
so proud, when i try my best
still pushing me 'cause she knows the best is yet
to come to my mother when i need to confess
what's on my chest
or in my heart
or seeking directions, she often tells me where to start
so i won't make mistakes, or get hurt, so i'll be better off
at times mother has to let me go
trust in God 'cause only he knows
tough love, real hard, pushing me towards the narrow road
crying tears as i learn to carry the load
of being a bit older
i call my mom sometimes, she's on the phone and i wait on her to click over
i listen to the voice of my mom as her shoulder invites me in
i get afraid cuz i have sinned, but my mothers kiss dismiss the fear
then her shoulders my pain it bears
as tear of joy and pain come down
my mother praises, 'cause God working it out
She sings, dances, and laughs with me
prays, cries, and strive for me
my mothers warmth and embrace change the nature of my face
her arms hold me near and say lift up your head o ye gates
smile daughter! for this is the day
i love my mom, yes i can say
i want her to be proud of all my ways
i love the Lord and long for him
i look for Jesus in my mothers hems and hyms
yes, P31 i don't want to be like worldly women
i want to love my children like my mom
enough to send them down the river
like moses' mom and his kindred
i'm like an infant still needing my mothers kiss,
so close to my heart.
